2027: Gov Bala, others receive APM nomination forms

The Bauchi State chapter of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) on Thursday presented expression of interest and nomination forms to its aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Presenting the forms, the Bauchi State Chairman of the party, Auwal Isa, said the exercise marked the beginning of processes leading to screening, clearance, and eventual submission of candidates’ names to the Independent National Electoral Commission in line with electoral guidelines.

Leading the list of aspirants was Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who is seeking to contest for a Senate seat after completing his tenure as governor.

Other beneficiaries of the nomination forms included aspirants for senatorial, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly positions.

The development follows an earlier stakeholders’ meeting of the APM, where party leaders reportedly adopted a consensus arrangement for selecting candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

Under the arrangement, the governorship ticket was zoned to Bauchi North Senatorial District, with former Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Yakubu Adamu, emerging as the party’s consensus governorship candidate.

Similarly, the current Executive Chairman of Bauchi Local Government Council and Chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in the state, Mahmud Babamaji, emerged as the running mate.

One of the governorship aspirants, Farouk Mustapha, had earlier expressed support for the consensus arrangement in a viral Facebook video, pledging loyalty to the governor’s decision.

Speaking on the development, Auwal Isa commended party stakeholders for resolving issues amicably and peacefully, describing the process as a demonstration of political maturity.

He also expressed confidence that the growing acceptance and popularity of the APM across Bauchi State and other parts of the country would position the party strongly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
